Around fifty automobiles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.

Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.

Police report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.

The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then discovered multiple other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Police report early analysis show the fluid was probably blood from a person.

"There is still no lead as to where it came from; officials are not yet aware of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they added.

Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to solve the case" and have appealed to the community for tips.

A senior representative commented the attack rendered him stunned and needed to be resolved promptly.

"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the death of nine victims by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
