From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in power within the city.
Warning: Revealing details for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.
The Warrior Group Introduced
Episode 3 concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of characters who will split off from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, separate from the remaining groups.
This warrior group features Teor (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for participants who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.
Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might appear out of place, but the developments of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the party knows exactly where to go next after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—used the enemy for his personal gain, invading the secret base, assaulting the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.
The traitor then settled his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, wants retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and warns that it is a hostile location.
- The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- However, their reputation as key figures in the powerful family could enable the team enter places they usually can’t.
- Moreover, Teor swore a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:
- Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- The target is marked for death by House Halovar.
This leaves them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in search of Casimir.
Upcoming Developments
According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to round up the Seekers and Schemers parties.
Viewers can look forward to finding out which players will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
