The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Largest RPG to Date

The anticipation about this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a completely new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer packed with striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This phrasing suggests that the team is likely crafting a more action-oriented experience instead of another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it sparked the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—qualities that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of specialized paths you can achieve with a specific type of character with a unique decision path.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, allowing players to experiment both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be solved in a variety of manners, frequently in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, fans can look forward to a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
